Thanks to one of the coproxamol.com members, this interesting article from the NPCi has appeared. www.npci.org.uk/blog/?p=368. Anyone care to guess which cycle the MHRA/EMEA media washing machine was on? Spin Cycle perhaps :@)

Here is the reply to the NPCi..... Dear NPCi I was interested to read your article... www.npci.org.uk/blog/?p=368. However the MHRA and now the EMEA have thrown the coproxamol baby out with the bathwater. The NPCi will have the best detail information on exactly how many patients were prescribed, and how much coproxamol prescriptions were issued (the figures I am given was 1,700,000 patients and 7,500,000 prescriptions annually). However, my point in emailing and giving NPCi website feedback is to advise you that the MHRA Named-Patient policy safety net for those patients has failed. Catastrophically so. Doctors have lost their insurance and medical union support to prescribe any coproxamol prescription. Thousands of patients have been left to live and die in unmanaged pain because all alternates have proven either too strong, too weak, or with intolerable side effects, and many doctors have said, yes, you need coproxamol, but my insurance and union will not allow me to prescribe it under MHRA conditions. I am no pharmacist, but I would liken pain control to MRSA in that there are only a few drugs that can cope. For me after 18 years on coproxamol following back surgery and a good working life, I am now faced with the prospect of going onto disability because I have no pain control. Worse, there are people who have attempted suicide because of unmanaged pain, and the Dignitas Clinic have referrals on this. The matter is now being researched and referred to the European Parliament on two levels. One that the MHRA (and now EMEA) have allegedly breached Human Rights, and two, the MHRA have an alleged culpability in the attempted suicide of people in unmanaged pain. As I write this, all UK Coroners and Procurators Fiscal are being contacted to see if the MHRA coproxamol mess has caused an actual suicide. In which case, as a former police officer, I shall be handing over the material to the Metropolitan Police. Regards, Russ McLean Submission to the MEP detailed here.... coproxamol.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=9
